Jamie and Bryan were married at Claxton Farm over Labor Day weekend. What a beautiful day at the Farm! We had such a great time hanging out with Jamie and Bryan's family and friends. We miss them already! This wedding was really special for us....so many details and such a team effort. Jamie's vintage style and vision turned out perfectly. Thanks so much to the beautiful setting and awesome staff at Claxton Farm, Darr for the most personalized ceremony, Corduroy Road for the most unique ceremony music, DJ Trevor for keeping the beats going, The Bloom Room for such beautiful blooms, Short Street Cakes for the fresh, caramel apple cake, JK Video and Our Labor of Love for what will sure to be some fabulous photographs! Erin & Adam - July 18, 2009 - NC Arboretum

We got some more wonderful pictures from Jesse Kitt today...
Erin & Adam were the first couple to be married at the N.C. Arboretum.
Their July 18 ceremony was unique in many ways....
The day could not have been more perfect.

Some of the elements included in the ceremony were circles and sea glass.
The cocktail hour prior to the ceremony was held in the circular Blue Ridge Court.
Each guest chose a piece of sea glass that Erin & Adam had provided from their personal collection during the cocktail hour.
During the ceremony each guest came up and dropped their sea glass into a vase.

The ceremony was written by Erin, Adam and their parents. (There was actually a 5 page script!) References were made to sea glass and the change it goes through in life. Both of Adam's parents are ministers and Erin's father as well so all 4 parents participated in the ceremony!
It was one of the most original and touching ceremonies I have seen.

Jesse Kitt captured the couple in a variety of locations at the Arboretum.

Jessica from Aria Floral provided additional sea glass as part of the decor.
The living arrangements were the perfect addition to the ambiance.

The couple chose to serve Pie's from Picnic's and Candy Apples for the kids from Kilwin's. Gotta love the Bride and Groom Candy Apples...

For a favor the very environmentally conscious couple chose to give personalized tree saplings to their guests. The N.C. Arboretum strives to be a green venue and encourages couples to choose environmentally friendly and sustainable vendors.

Welcome Reception at The Beaufort House!

Asheville Event Co. had a busy Labor Day weekend planning and coordinating three events. We had such a blast that we wanted to post a couple of photos right away! We loved working with the owners of The Beaufort House Bed and Breakfast to host a welcome reception for nearly 100 people for Jamie and Bryan. We tented their beautiful side lawn between the grape vine and a huge, old tree and right next to the stunning Wisteria Arbor. The guests were able to flow freely between the tented area through their gardens, the wrap-around porch and throughout the inn. We always love working with Classic Event Rental for all our rental needs including the great burlap linens and mason jars for the lemonade and tea bar. Those Girls from the Colorful Palate created a delicious menu of Beef Sliders, Chicken Sates, Sun-dried Tomato Corn Fritters and a Bruschetta Bar. And the mini desserts from Eat Dessert First were tiny works of art!

Jamie and Bryan's custom-designed wedding invitation won a Smock award! Smock Paper is a line of letterpress printed material sustainably printed on bamboo paper in Upstate New York. It's a hand-drawn rendering of their wedding venue - Claxton Farm. It's so beautiful and unique! We can't wait to post photos of this vintage-inspired wedding after Jamie and Bryan get married in a couple of weeks!

Jessica and Tyler got engaged on July 4th so it was important to them to have their wedding around the same time.
It was the PERFECT weekend in Asheville.
The staff at Homewood even commented on the incredible day we had.
The guests were able to enjoy a long weekend in Asheville, a fun and fabulous wedding and some fireworks on the 4th!!!

The guests partied well into the night and had a lot of fun dancing and singing...If only I could show you all the photos.

Elizabeth and Paul's Green Wedding!

We were so excited to be a part of this amazing couple's wedding! Elizabeth and Paul were married on top of Rich Mountain in Brevard, NC in June. They are really passionate about the environment and nature (Elizabeth is actually getting a master's degree in environmental studies!) so they asked us to help them plan their green wedding to reflect their personality! All of the printed material including the invitations, table cards, menu cards and programs were made from recycled and plantable material! Their save the date cards were a postcard from Carbonfund.org that were purchased in each guests name to offset their carbon footprint when they traveled to the wedding! And the venue they picked was just perfect! On top of a mountain with a 360 degree view!

Honour with HH Fine Art Photography has such an eye for incredible details. I love this shot of the rings!Elizabeth is sharing a moment with her dad as he walks her down the aisle!
Wendell, Elizabeth and Paul's dog, was the ring bearer!
Meredith with Aria Floral hand built the cross in the background from natural wood and sticks from the land. It's so beautiful!Elizabeth and Paul had guests write their wishes on recycled paper with environmentally-friendly pens and hang them on the wishing tree!

Elizabeth loves poppies and Meredith was able to find a local grower that had poppies in season!

Meredith with Aria Floral did a fabulous job with all of the flowers!
The little boys wore gray seersucker suits! So cute!

Aria Floral used river rocks, lanterns, greenery and local fruits and vegetables for the beautiful table decor! There were over 500 candles lit at their venue!

Elizabeth and Paul's signature cocktail was a Strawberry Mint Mojito made with locally grown strawberries and mint!

Instead of printing menu cards for every place setting we decided to utilize a reusable chalkboard to share the fabulous menu with all the guests. 28806 Catering provided a fabulous menu full of local meats, cheese and vegetables!

Elizabeth and Paul's bridesmaid, Kristin, made this wonderful cake, chocolate dipped strawberries and chocolate cupcakes with as many local and organic ingredients as she could find!

The toasts were just incredible!

They had such a great time! Thanks so much for letting us share in your special day!

We were so excited to be a part of Wendy and Scott's wedding at Magnolia Plantation in Charleston, SC on May 23!

The ceremony took place on the Carriage House lawn right next to the Ashley River and the reception was in the Carriage House, although the weather was so nice some guests enjoyed the party on the veranda.

This three-tiered cake by Jim Smeal Cakes was beautiful!
The fabulous menu of traditional low country eats by Carolina Catering included Charleston Crab Dip, Pimento Cheese Spread, Fried Green Tomatoes with Smoked Tomato Jam and Black Eyed Pea Corn Relish, Blue Cheese Cole Slaw, Shrimp, Grits and Andouille Sausage and Seared Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes.

Scott works in the film industry so Wendy surprised him with this great cake also by Jim Smeal Cakes.

I had to include this photo of the flower girl and her little friends dancing. It's so cute!

The Gift Bags included lots of local treats for their guests;

water from Blue Moon Water, truffles from The French Broad Chocolate Lounge, honey from Sweet Betty Bee's, along with gift bags and specialty items from Biltmore.

Lynn from Sweet Betty Bees put together these mini jars for us.

Ansley & Jay wanted custom candle tins. We found these at Moodwax Candle . Their custom monogram was incorporated throughout the wedding.

Charlene & Charles Vow Renewal at Biltmore

Charlene & Charles were married on June 6th, 1970. Together with their family they renewed their vows on the Vista behind the Inn on Biltmore.

A Champagne Bar Ice Sculpture from Masterpiece Ice was a refreshing treat for guests as they arrived on the Belvedere Veranda.

The decor for the reception included Charlene's favorite color purple, peacock feathers, faberge eggs and gold accents. She had saved items from her first wedding and incorporated them throughout the weekend.

Charlene & Charles included the original cake topper and cake knife from their June 6th, 1970 nuptiuals. There were various displays with photos from their wedding, Charlene's first wedding gown, tickets from their honeymoon and tickets from the Biltmore Estate.

The Inn on Biltmore did a fantastic job. From the lobster tail and filet mignon to the Faberge Egg Cake every detail that Charlene envisioned came to life. Classic Event Rentals provided rentals, The beautiful flowers came from Clement's Florist, Amy from Alpine Photography covered the wedding weekend, Split Second Sound and the Doug Burnes Band provided entertainment throughout the night.

WNC magazine along with the Asheville Area Arts Council proudly present the top emerging artists of Western North Carolina.

More than 150 artists entered the On the Verge contest, but only a handful have been selected to participate in a month-long exhibit at the Asheville Area Arts Council’s gallery. The winner will also be featured in the May 2009 issue of WNC magazine.

Green Wedding Ideas

Have an outdoor wedding so you and your guests can appreciate the environment.

Have the wedding ceremony and reception at the same venue and cut down on the transportation.

Consider purchasing carbon offsets or Renewable Energy Certificates (REC's) and incorporate them as a wedding favor, or note on the place card. (nativeenergy.com, green-e.org, carbonfund.org)

Hire local vendors and caterers who practice sustainable methods and buy local products.

Limit the number of cut flowers you use and consider alternatives such as herbs and vegetables.

Donate your flowers after the event. We have a great source in Asheville called Second Bloom (secondbloom.org) that takes the flowers from events and brings them to nursing homes, rehab centers and Hospice.

Use eco-friendly paper for your invitations and programs. Recycled paper and invitations have come a long way. We love the plantable invitations we found at foreverfiances.com.
Incorporate the guest favor into the decor by using recycled bowls and decor.
Rather than offering any gifts, donate to your favorite cause in honor of your guests.
Create edible centerpieces
For candles consider using soy or beeswax, they are a bit more expensive but better for the environment
Asheville has an abundant supply of local brewers. We recommend that our clients use local beer and organic wines.

Hunter and Nikki had a gorgeous November wedding in the evening at Homewood. Celine and Company cooked up sliders and tater tots for the bride and groom. To save on costs the couple selected favorite songs and created playlists on their i-pod for the reception. The groom performed a song that he wrote for his bride...Flowers by Blossoms. Mountin' Hopes Asado

Asheville Event Co. had the privilege to coordinate Mountin' Hopes 3rd annual Argentinean Asado at Claxton Farm in October. Mountin' Hopes continues to do great work and we are honored to be part of this event. For more information check out their website at mountinhopes.org.
